Stairs that allow for no pauses when being climbed. A tunnel that continues on with no end in sight. What these have in common are the feelings of “close, but not reachable” and “almost visible, but cannot be seen.” These kinds of sensations. Many cherished memories change and fade with time. However, what I want to see and feel once more is the heart of the memory, the element which cannot be preserved in photographs or texts.
Three-dimensional works such as “Sky Cicada,” which is a stack of blocks of salt, and “Memory Fountain,” in which hundreds of small boats of salt melt in a squall peculiar to Mexico, are made by baking salt to harden it.
