Fragments of Memory Project, Salt-Crystal Accessory Workshop(Suzu, Ishikawa)

We will hold an “Accessory-Making Workshop” at Kanazawa University’s Noto Gakusha in Suzu, Ishikawa Prefecture.

Workshop | “Fragments of Memory”
Salt salvaged from a sculpture destroyed in the Noto Peninsula earthquake is reborn as wearable art. Participants of all ages—children, adults, and seniors—are invited to encase a single grain of memory in resin and carry it close to the heart. Come and experience the moment when a precious memory connects quietly with your own.

Date : Sat 23 August, 2025 (15:00–17:00)
Venue : Kanazawa University’s Noto Gakusha
(Former Kodomari Elementary School, 33-7 Kodomari, Misaki-cho, Suzu, Ishikawa)
Fee : ¥1,000 , no reservation required (15–30 min per piece)
Residents of the six northern Noto municipalities hit hardest by the earthquake (Nanao, Wajima, Suzu, Shika, Anamizu, Noto) are invited free of charge.

Grant : Arts Council Kanazawa, Cultural Activities for Noto Recovery.

What is the Fragments of Memory Project ?
After the Noto earthquake, a 3-metre salt tower created for the Oku-Noto Triennale collapsed into white rubble. Instead of discarding the salt, we invite people to transform each tiny crystal into a personal relic they can wear—a quiet gesture that keeps the memory of the disaster, and of those we have lost, alive and close.
By sealing salt, light, and time inside a translucent pendant, we ask:
How do we hold on to what must not be forgotten?
Join us and let your own memories resonate with these small, glimmering fragments.
